Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

As the Coronavirus spreads throughout our planet we have some advise based upon the notices issued by the UK Government and the NHS

The Agreed Facts on COVID-19

A highly contagious disease. Most probably 80% of the population will be infected.

The incubation period can be up to 14 days.

The main symptoms are a high temperature, fever, dry and persistent cough, shortness of breath.

Most sufferers will experience some discomfort but will recover after about a week.

The infection is more serious for people with underlying health issues and the elderly.

The Medical Response

Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds using soap and warm water.

If you sneeze or cough, use a tissue and bin it immediately, or if you haven’t a tissue, use the crook of your arm.

Keep your distance from others – if possible, keep two metres away.

Keep well

Don’t over exert yourself

Keep up your strength

The International Response

In order to manage the care of those in greatest need we need to introduce measures to avoid a spike in demand for medical assistance.

Some experts believe this will be achieved by introducing very strict measures immediately and then to slowly ease the restrictions.

Other experts believe we need to introduce strict measures gradually to achieve the same result.

The balance of the argument is heading towards introducing measures sooner rather than later.
We are following national guidelines but introducing them sooner rather than later

Therefore:

We have stopped shaking hands before, during and after the Services.

We have stopped using the common cup during Holy Communion Services. We only receive the bread.

We have asked all sidesmen to wash their hands before and after the Service in the Vestry.

We will not be passing the Collection Plate around. Instead please place your offering on the plate either at the back of church or on the piano.

We have closed down all midweek meetings, however large or small.

We have stopped any special plans for larger than usual Church Services. For example, the Mothering Sunday Family Service will still go ahead but the Primary School won’t be involved.

We have abandoned plans for the anointing and Laying on of Hands Service scheduled for 29th March.

We ask those who are feeling unwell to stay away, but please let us know how you are.

We ask those who have been in contact with people who have recently returned from infected areas of the world to stay away for a fortnight.

At the moment all Church Services will still go ahead, including baptisms, weddings and funerals. We will still include singing in our Services and the use of hymnbooks. Everything, however is constantly under review.

Pastoral Care:

During these trying times please look out for one another. Keep in touch with somebody so that between us we will know how we all are.

Make contingency plans in case you feel unwell or in case you choose to isolate yourself as a precaution. Think ahead about your medicines, your food, and how you might occupy your time!
