Here are some of Jesus’ wise words from Matthew 7

So…who started this trend of starting every comment with ‘So’! Until recently the favourite opening line for politicians was ‘Now look’. And what happened with the good old favourite opening words ‘Well’ or ‘Umm’? Do you get annoyed with over-used phrases? The one that gets me is ‘There are lessons to be learnt’. I often wonder ‘Why didn’t you know that already?’ ‘So’, here are some things we should know already: 1. If you cut the branch you are sitting on, you will fall. 2. Ignore warning signs at your peril. 3. Smile, and the world will smile with you; weep, and you will weep alone. 4. Don’t listen to yourself at 3 am in the morning. 5. Popularity comes not from being interesting, but by being interested in others. 6. It is wise to take out insurance against having missed something in the ‘terms and conditions’ of your insurance policy. 7. A system is only as good as the people who work it. Here are some of Jesus’ wise words (from Matthew 7) 1. ‘Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 2. ‘Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 3. ‘Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.’ 4. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognise them. There are indeed ‘lessons to be learnt’!
